Poor Amy wouldn't wee this morning, and today is the day she is left while I work. (4 hours). She wet in her crate while I was gone. Looks like I need to work on the "toilet" command too. It was raining and always takes a bit longer when its wet. :.

Re: toilet on command. Ah yes, it's very useful. Charlie's command is "peep peep" - but he always has the same routine, which I think is just as important. Out on a lead, no funny business, or playing, or anything else, until he goes. Then a treat and a bit of fun. No peep peep = no treat, and no fun. He squeezes a drop out even if he doesn't really need to - if he doesn't go at all, I know he is empty (usually because we've got confused and someone else has already just taken him out). It's a life saver if you're on a deadline for work.
Re: toilet on command. Lilly (bladder of a camel) is NEVER empty. At least she always seems to be able to squeeze something out at every pit-stop around the woods : Poor Amy though. I must admit I have never bothered about a toilet on order command - I guess we have never seen the need for it. I am sure Lilly knows what days she will be home alone by the morning routine, I guess Amy will learn that too.
Re: toilet on command. Could see have picked up on the different routine on Wednesdays? Most mornings she will go just before we get ready for school, but recently most Wednesday's she won't go!
Re: toilet on command. She might pick up on it if your routine is different than other days. I always let Harley out as soon as she is awake, then take her out 30 mins before I leave and if she doesn't go I will take her 15 mins before or at worse 5 mins before I go. Good luck with this
Re: toilet on command. You could try walking her early on Wednesdays - it's always a good idea to try to walk a dog before crate time anyway. Never met a dog who won't pee on a walk!
Re: toilet on command. I keep meaning to walk her before, but hubby leaves at 6.30. So he has no time to help with the boys if they woke up. She is up two/three hours before been left, just no exercise. :-[
Re: toilet on command. Can you take her on lead to drop the boys off at School that way she might get a quick wee in before you have to leave for work? Alternatively a quick trip round the block would probably do it and then a proper walk when you get home. Also dogs do pick up on our routine for leaving the house, perhaps you could change it a bit so that she doesn't pick up on the cues so easily. xx
Re: toilet on command. We live opposite the school, I am late to work by time I dropped the boys at school anyway. So no time to take her back into the house. Thank goodness it's only 1 day a week! Will work on the command, and try getting up earlier!

Re: toilet on command. I used to find when Riley was unwilling a quick run around for a ball got his full bladder calling out to be emptied. If you can squeeze in 5 mins run around the garden she might help you out a bit more?....just a thought ;D

I guess Jade you will probably need to develop other strategies whilst waiting : Our routine is so ingrained now. But it is soooo difficult getting up at 6.30 IN THE DARK to walk the dog before work. And living too close to the school is DEFINITELY a negative point too. Maybe you need to get the boys up half an hour earlier for a "special Amy walk" before school, though you will need to have a super-dooper incentive (aka bribe......hmmm....)

And there i am, worrying because Poppy sometimes won't pee until 11:00 am… Jade, I can understand. Pops often won't wee when we take her down the garden first thing in the morning; she quite deliberately waits for her walk. Either you are going to have to walk her before work, or else she is going to quickly learn that going down the garden means 'do a pee now, or you wait several hours'.
