    Hi everyone
Jett (black lab ) has just turned one and I’m looking for advise on ways to settle him He had vets yesterday and he was over excited he pulled and ran all the way to the vet front door raced in jumped on the scales and then into the reception area he wasn’t even walking he was scuttling ( for the lack of a better word ) and was extremely hard to control so he was gasping because his collar was pulling on his throat he also does this behaviour when I go to my parents house as he just wants to play with their Irish setter who is also a year old I know he doesn’t have much socialising as we are at home all the time except for his daily walk do I just need to redirect this behave for example make him wait and settle before entering and if he starts once inside take him back out ?

Hi there! Welcome :). This sounds hard work for you - but there are a few things you can do to help. Firstly I would switch that flat collar out for a harness so he can't hurt himself when he pulls. Then if he usually walks nicely on a loose leash, I would do lots of walking back and forth near the vet, turning the other way any time he pulls and treating that heel position with a stream of tasty treats :). You can build up to stepping in the door and leaving again, etc :)

At your parents I would do very similar, and keep the setter behind a baby gate or closed door until everyone has calmed down :)

If he pulls on your daily walks too, I would work on that first, and add the distractions later!
