David organised a walk with our neighbour and his two very calm male working Labradors, Abe and Sesk and their elderly Staffie Millie because Charlie rarely gets to walk with other dogs other than Hattie and he can be a bit lead reactive with some dogs which we are trying to sort out with BAT so these dogs were a good start Here is a rather blurred photo, sorry but David was taking it and walking. Charlie is the nearest with the fawn collar. He did really well on an 1 1/2 walk in the woods on lead whilst the other dogs were off lead with an excitable moment for Charlie when one of the Labs flushed some Pheasants : Charlie was kept on lead as we want to take this slowly to build up Charlie's confidence before we let him off lead to join the group. They are going to make this a regular walk over the coming weeks with Hattie and I joining when she is upto full exercise to see if this will help Charlie, we are also going to ask some other owners of calm dogs if we can walk with them too. Thanks xxx
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Gosh Charlie looks so calm! Good thinking Helen, slowly introducing him to walking with other dogs is a great idea. Xx
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Brilliant that you have found a good group who understand Charlie and his needs, looks like a lovely walk was had by all. Looking forward to updates!
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Fab news well done Charlie.......hope you got lots of treats for being so good
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Such fun. Charlie looks very comfortable walking with his pals. Not sure what the lab on the far side is thinking. From the angle of the purple legs I would say Charlie could teach them a thing or two about walking on lead. ;D Keeping Charlie on a lead while the other dogs are loose could also help with training him to remain calm while other dogs are loose around him. Well done Charlie. ;D
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Super to see,Charlie looks like he did really well,I'm so pleased you've got some folks to walk with to,practice x
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk
Brilliant that you have found a good group who understand Charlie and his needs, looks like a lovely walk was had by all. Looking forward to updates!
Absolutely, they are a lovely family and it was so nice that their two daughters aged 9 and 7 years old joined in giving Charlie lots of attention which of course he loved I'm so glad you think he looks relaxed, here's hoping this weeks adventure goes as well or better Next week a walk with Mark and Woody the Labrador is booked too. Thanks everyone xx
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Charlie's second group walk Charlie has just returned from his second group walk with David and our neighbours 2 Labs and Staffie also an added Yellow Labrador Barney this week that Tim is looking after, a real huge boy who is top dog. He came upto Charlie sniffed him gave him a look and all was OK. Charlie was placed at the back of the group on the way out and on the way back he was placed in the middle and he coped really well. When they got back to Tim's house a dog came out of his house that Charlie doesn't like and they barked a lot at each other so it was a shame that it ended on a bit of a negative. Charlie is getting to go on walks that the public don't have access to as Tim works his dogs and has permission from the land owners to walk in these areas all year round. Next week they are going to a place of many acres which is deer fenced so they might let Charlie off lead with the other dogs to see how he reacts in an off lead group. Tim has a wealth of knowledge and couldn't believe that Charlie was so different after two walks and they were all full of praise for Charlie and how well he coped with not even a bark this week I hope this is giving Charlie lots of confidence to reaching our goal of him being a truely real dog xx Thanks xx
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Excellent news Helen and you were worried incase last week was a fluke. : it's good he's getting used to being followed that's lots of progress from last week and really good he was fine with the new dog. It's unfortunatne the dog he doesn't like was there at the end but it perhaps shows some of Charlie's reactivity towards dogs is a learnt behaviour to particular dogs especially as he behaved so well with a big male that he didn't know. 10/10 for Charlie for sure. ;D
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk This is so fantastic to read Helen I bet you are so happy with how things are going x
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Charlie's third Group Walk Well another very successful group walk with the same family and dogs. Tim, Karen and her daughters always come out and make a big fuss of Charlie which he loves so all makes for a positive experience for him. Charlie settled into the group and walked closely to the other dogs and not a problem at all. Millie the Staffie came right upto him and sniffed nose to nose all was great Probably the best thing about this weeks walk was walking back through the field that the owners of Harry (they don't like each other :) own, all dogs on lead, Harry off lead came running upto the group and Charlie only barked once so I think he is confident in a group situation as normally he would bark like crazy. Charlie is gaining in confidence each week and Tim and Karen have noticed how calm he is hmm Charlie and calm used in the same sentence, it must be a dream ;D So proud of Charlie and very grateful to our lovely neighbours xxx
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk So glad you are having fab group walks and that Charlie is relaxing more
Re: Charlie's First Group Walk Well done Charlie I'm proud if you. ;D Maybe compared to Tim and Karen's dogs Charlie is calm .
