J and I went out for dinner last night. I gave the dogs a couple of kongs each and put some more kibble and sardines in a bowl to soak. We were running late and I just left the bowl on the work surface, but pushed far to the back where I know the dogs can't reach.

When we came back, the bowl was empty. There were a couple of pieces of kibble left on the work surface. Nothing else was disturbed.

Well, this clearly couldn't have been a Labrador, because no Lab would leave any bits of stray food. Nor could they possibly be delicate enough not to knock over the mugs.

Hmmm, peculiar. We'll never get to the bottom of it. Must have been fairies.

In totally separate news, Shadow has a new trick of jumping from the floor onto the back of the sofa, and walking, very precisely, like a cat, along the narrow edge.

mmmm.....I had a similar case of a disappearing packet of sea wraps that had been left on top of a box in the middle of the kitchen table.

Charlie said the fairies left the wrapper in his crate on their way out the back door....

I have a fairy like that as well! Chicken carved ready for dinner, pieces on a plate right at the back of the work surface, I went to serve later and no chicken, plate not moved, nothing out of place! We had never had the fairy before!

Clearly a case of an infestation of super mice. We detected that problem a while back by sprinkling flour on the work top and later there were huge paw prints from the super mice for all to see in the flour. To give you an idea of how big these mice are, the paw prints were the same size exactly as Lady's paws. ;)

Wow, those are some big mice! I'm surprised Shadow didn't jump up and scare them away. I know he can get onto the work surface when he's excited. Maybe the mouse wasn't exciting enough.

We've had those fairies. They ate 6 large white bread rolls that were in a plastic bag, in a bowl on the kitchen bench - without disturbing the bag or moving the bowl. Amazing.

Oh! We had the clumsy fairies then. They pulled a plate of meat from the back of the counter, smashed it on the floor, cut themselves on it, then left bloody-fairy prints all over the kitchen floor....

Anyone had the egg fairies? A flatmate brought 40 eggs in a tray home (gift from a client with hens). He placed them on the top shelf of the pantry, about 6 feet above floor level. The next day they had all disappeared - no-one had been in the flat except my agile young cat and my flatmates Golden Retriever. The egg fairies did not leave a single trace behind them, they were exceptionally clean and tidy and the tray was in exactly the same place we had left it.

Hmmm, it sounds as if Shadow has been practising his sofa-walking on the work surface. I wonder whether he shared the proceeds?! Must have been the enticing smell of the sardines! :)
